How to Use the App

  • Get a pen or pencil, some paper and a calculator. You can practice an unlimited number of math and algebra problems provided by MathOtter.
  • The MathOtter web app is an internet accessible tool that runs in a browser. You can use it on your phone, laptop or tablet and practice anytime, anywhere you have internet connectivity. You must have internet connectivity to run the app.
  • For the best experience on your phone, add MathOtter to your home screen. (Scroll down to see instructions.)

  • You can get started by using the "Search" feature on the home screen to find specific problem types or topics. Or, choose a category from the home screen:
    • Math Skills
    • Algebra
    • Geometry
    • Word problems
    • Data analysis
    • Random Quiz
  • Each category (other than the Random Quiz) has a list of problem types you can work on.
  • You can work on a specific problem, then tap or click "Show Answer" to see if you got it right.
  • If you got the correct answer, great! If not, you can:
    • Tap or click the round "i" icon to get more information about the problem concept with some example problems and solutions.
    • Tap of click the "Show Me How" button (if available) to get a step-by-step explanation of how to do the problem.
    • If you've created a free account, you can tap or click "Show Me How" to get a step-by-step explanation of how to do the problem -- from an Artificial Intelligence (AI) source. 10 free "Show Me How" requests for AI assistance are included when you create an account.(And, you can purchase more if needed.)
  • Practice as little or as much as you want -- there's no tracking going on. But, remember: Practice Makes Perfect!
  • NOTE: AI information may sometimes be wrong. (This shouldn't happen very often.) You may need to repeat "Show Me How". There may be short times when the AI assistant is not available.

Adding MathOtter to Your Home Screen

For the best experience on your phone, add MathOtter to your home screen. This allows you to launch the app like a regular app and gives you access to more screen space.

Here are the instructions for different devices:

  • iPhone/iPad (Safari): Tap the "Share" button (the square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen, then select "Add to Home Screen".
  • Android (Chrome): Tap the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner, then select "Add to Home screen".
  • Other Browsers/Devices: Look for similar options in your browser's menu to add the app to your home screen.
